Education:

BSc (Hons) Forest Management, MSc Sustainable Rural Development

Current Job:
Senior Campaigns Officer, Seconded to Dundee City Council

Employer:
Scottish Waste Awareness Group
How did you get your current job?:
The Scottish Waste Awareness Group gave me a great opportunity to focus my passion for the environment into the development of campaigns to encourage people to change their attitudes towards Reduce Reuse and Recycle. I started off working on national campaigns with the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) before moving on to work with local authorities including Aberdeenshire and Dundee.

What’s a typical day like?
There really is no such thing as a typical day. I get involved in a broad range of work from developing and managing campaigns, managing and visiting agencies and working with Dundee City Council staff on Recycling and Waste Management projects.

Best bits of your job?
The variety.

Worst bits of your job?
Keeping in touch with staff in the Stirling office: being seconded I can’t just pop next door to a colleague’s desk for a chat about an idea.

What would you like to be doing in five years time?
Mmm…. Working as an Environmental Manager for the British Antarctic Survey or surfing in Indonesia having just won the Euro Millions rollover.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in waste management, prevention and recycling?
Stay enthusiastic, it counts for a lot.
